My name is Sarah Duhra and I am teaching grade 6 this year. My teaching philosophy involves building productive and prolific school experiences for each student, based on providing quality learning opportunities, that are purposeful and relevant to student lives. My main purpose this year is to build critical thinking skills and focus on equipping students with the right "tools" to succeed in the future, by being able to solve problems in the 21st century. With a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Education degree specializing in secondary education, I hope to bring my experiences of teaching a variety of grades within the division II and III cohort into the grade 6 classroom. I have learned that building relationships with my students is an integral part of creating a safe environment, where risk taking is encouraged and valued. I look forward to the 2017-2018 school year with all of you!
HELLO.
My name is Kaja Hansen and I'm a grade six teacher at Dr. George Stanley School.
I grew up just outside of Calgary and completed my undergraduate degree at the Alberta College of Art and Design before attending the University of Calgary faculty of Education.
As an educator and artist, I wish for my students to take advantage of their inherent creativity and enthusiasm for everything. As adults we often forget what it was like to live in a world where everything was brand new and everyday meant learning something you never knew before. We take for granted our experienced view of the world and all the seemingly inherent knowledge that comes along with it. Children live in the present and may not be able to recognize the limitless potential that lies in front of them, to learn, grow and challenge them to expand in every way possible. As an educator I strive to maintain the same level of enthusiasm of learning for myself and for my students.
